Who Will Win English Premier League 2023-2024?

Posted on by SoccerPunter

Undoubtedly, the appeal of the English Premier League is immense, with the popularity of this football championship dramatically swelling globally following the mid-1990s, when its TV rights got sold in over a hundred countries worldwide. Without question, the leagues, competitiveness level, rich history, and passionate fan base have elevated to previously unimaginable heights, with each season bringing intense battles between high-quality teams in a competition where anyone can beat everyone on a given day.

According to stats, around three billion people watch Premier League matches every season, and the championship popularity is also swelling in vital markets like the US, where somewhere in the neighborhood of two million viewers tune in to enjoy top-flight English footie action on NBC, Peacock Premium, and Telemundo. Expectations are that for the 2023-2024 season, interest will be higher than ever in the North American market, primarily thanks to the rise of American and Canadian betting sites.

The 31st season of the league, the 2022-2023 tournament, ended with Manchester City capturing their 7th Premier League title and 9th English one. It was the highest-scoring season in history, with a 2.85 goal-per-match ratio. City and Norway striker, Erling Haaland, had an impressive 2022/23 run, as he shattered the Premier League scoring record by netting thirty-six goals. On top of this, this season was also the second one in succession where more than fifteen million people saw matches live, and the first when the team that occupied the 20th spot in the standings at Christmas wound up avoiding relegation.

Below, we perform a quick dive into the 125th season of top-flight English football, or the 32nd season of the Premier League, which will begin on August 11th and conclude on the 19th of May 2024, looking at who is most likely to lift the Football League Trophy.

What Do the Bookies Say?

Coming off their third consecutive title, in a run where they finished five points clear of Arsenal, with a sixty-one goal difference, it should not surprise anyone that most bookies have Manchester City as the clear favorites to snag a fourth consecutive trophy. Most online sportsbooks list Pep Guardiola’s side as -170 odds-on favorites to have another dash to the top in 2023-2024. That is so despite the departure of Ilkay Gundogan, the team’s captain, and the likely exits of Kyle Walker and Riyad Mahrez. Man City will try to fill their absence and improve for the upcoming season with Chelsea’s Mateo Kovacic and the looming signing of Josko Gvardiol.

Bookmakers have the Gunners in second place as the squad most likely to challenge City in climbing the peak of the English football mountain. The question most have is if Arsenal, Mikel Arteta’s team, can bounce back from the disappointing 2022-2023 season when they squandered an eight-point lead in a matter of a few weeks. Havertz has joined Arsenal from Chelsea, but many are doubtful that the savvy German forward will be enough to boost the London’s side attack prowess to a level where they can overtake City for the title.

Newcastle United finished fourth last season, with seventy-one points, four shy of third-placed Manchester United, and many sportsbooks give the club playing at St James’ Park a quality shot of again contending for a Championship League spot.

A Super-Computer Claims Manchester City Will Retain the Title

In the past decade, Liverpool rose as a formidable franchise winning three championships. Unfortunately, The Reds did not have a good year, and they missed out on a Champions League finish, rounding up the 2022-2023 season in the fifth position, with four points less than Newcastle United and five more than Brighton & Hove Albion. The optics are that their established rivalry with Man City is coming to an end, as Jurgen Klopp’s side is beginning to fall drastically behind, as Pep Guardiola marches onwards to another league trophy in his English era of dominance.

Going by a software-based predictor, which rounds up betting markets from around the globe and uses historical data, Man City will again reign supreme in 2023-2024, but Liverpool gets tipped to have a resurgence of sorts, as they get predicted to finish in second place, ahead of Arsenal, with Man United again making it to the top four. Thus, this means that a computer believes that Newcastle will miss out on the 2024-2025 Champions League, and it, along with Chelsea, will play in the Europa League group stage that season.

The Pundits Agree with the Super-Computer

Yes, this is probably not a surprise to anyone. Via one online poll, more than fifty percent of voters are of the opinion that the Citizens will again triumph in the new season, with the Gunners getting voted as the most-likely contenders, followed by Liverpool, Manchester United, and Chelsea.

Though former English right back, Glen Johnson, has stated that he thinks his ex-club, Chelsea, will be Man City’s closest rival in the title race. Johnson believes that the gap between Man City and Liverpool is growing and that the Blues will appear from the shadows and fire on all cylinders this year under proper management.

Legendary Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, has also made a bold claim, as he recently told Eurosport that, in his eyes, Arsenal will, for sure, go all the way this season, as the Declan Rice obscene transfer will definitely pay off, and lead the Gunners to a title. Wenger added that Arsenal is in a pretty decent financial situation currently, and they have made quality purchases, crafted a mature squad that can stay together for many years to come, and produce results now.

While this is not outside the realm of possibility, the BETSiE data machine points out that it is unlikely and that Arsenal will have to settle for the runner-up spot.

Sadly, tipsters, bookmakers, and software agree – we are all in for another eight months, where Pep Guardiola will guide Manchester City’s squad to a fourth-straight Premier League win. That will not do the competition much good, but it is the most likely outcome, per almost everyone.
